Costa Rica trip
07th May 2012
My wife and I spent a week in Costa Rica in April. We rented a four wheel drive and traveled about 500 miles between four different hotels and areas. We landed in the Capital of San Jose around 10 in the morning and drove up into the rainforest to the small town of La Fortuna. Our hotel cabin (picture from the room below) was right below the Volcano that devastated the area in 1969 and was still active with lava until last year. There were hot springs from the volcano right on the grounds of the hotel. We did a zip line through the rainforest and one line was 760 feet above the canopy and we were travelling 55 miles an hour, what a rush! I got the shot of the "green parrot" right in front of our cabin at the Hotel de Silencia. The next day we hiked to a waterfall that was falling about 200 feet down an opening in the rain forest. We swam in the water beneath and hiked back up the steep incline to get out. The picture called "Rain forest waterfall" was taken from the top.
After two nights we drove about 3 hours to the mountain town of Monte Verde above the cloud forest. The hotel here was awesome with a room that opened up to the view across the top of the cloud forest and all the way to the coast about 30 miles away. The next morning we loade up on souveneers and headed back down the mountain to the coast region around Waco.
The Waco area is world famous as a surfing beach and surf mecca. The town has several outdoor restaurants with great fresh seafood and drinks. Our hotel was right on the beach. Right below Waco was Hermosa beach another famous surf beach with black volcanic sand.
